NYC Hot Humid Thunderstorm Roulette Today
Good morning everyone. We have a hot, humid day ahead of us today, plus the chance of scattered severe storms in the evening. We’ll be watching the radar very closely today for popcorn-like storms popping up N&W of NYC, then drifting southeast in a very broken line. Details below….
SATELLITE
First and foremost, we have sunshine and hot weather building in today. It’ll also be a humid one as NYC gets into the low 90’s. Depending on the wind profile, some isolated spots may see mid 90’s especially just to the west of NYC in places such as Newark. The cooler spots will be on the south shore shore and east end of Long Island, but central and northern Nassau may see some 90’s pop, and central/northwest Suffolk as well.
Storms will fire up to the north and west of NYC, then drift down over the area. These will be isolated cells for the most part, and we honestly can’t tell you who will see what yet. Keep an eye to the sky and the radar. For those who do see storms, damaging winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and hail may impact your area. Seek cover and do not attempt to drive through standing water.
The best chance to see severe storms, will be spots in NW NJ, areas north of NYC, NYC itself, the LI Sound, and north shore of Nassau and parts of Suffolk.
WEATHER RADAR
Sunshine returns tomorrow and light NW will help heat things up again. It’ll be a drier heat, but low 90’s will persist.
We’ll have sun and clouds on Thursday with the slight chance of a thundershower, and humidity will increase again with upper 80’s. Upper 80’s to near 90 temps hang on for Friday and the entire weekend.
