NYC Hot Weather Not Done Yet But Early Fall-Like Pattern Building
Good morning everyone. We have some good news and some bad news, so I’ll hit you with the bad news first because I enjoy ruining Mondays. If any of you caught the live feed yesterday evening, I explained that not everyone will see rain today. That part is coming true, as well as the heat building back tomorrow through Friday. We modify the forecast a bit in terms of who is seeing rain, but there remains a big dry slot between NYC and Nassau County; while parts of Suffolk are seeing some relief.
The good news is there continues to be signs that an early fall pattern is building, and we could see some Canadian air pay a visit in the next 10-15 days.
SATELLITE
Expect mostly cloudy to cloudy skies today, with temps slightly below average and very muggy conditions. NW NJ and the lower Hudson Valley continue to have the best chance for rain, but Suffolk County is getting in on the action as a fetch of moisture is coming in off of the ocean. We’ll watch the radar to see if it fills in, but as of now, look for on and off showers in NYC and Nassau.
We’ll also be watching to see if some of these heavier echoes go across the same spots, because that’ll enhance the risk of flash flooding due to the very dry soil.
Tomorrow we go very warm and humid, with mostly cloudy skies and a few blue spots here and there. We’ll be in the upper 80’s tomorrow and we’ll have the chance of a few PM showers.
WEATHER RADAR
Things dry out on Wednesday, but the heat returns with near 90 temps into Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are looking sunny, then out next front comes through some time later Friday with the chance of a thunderstorm.
That’ll help dial back the heat and humidity for our weekend, with sunny skies Saturday & Sunday and highs in the mid 80’s; then low to mid 80’s Sunday.
In the long range we continue to see the gears turning towards an early fall pattern. That means in increase in tropical activity, as well as a few opportunities for some much cooler air. The first push may come as early as the next 10-15 days in the form of a relatively strong cold front at or around Labor Day weekend. If so, we could see a round of severe storms, but more importantly, temps may drop through the 70’s if things stay true to form. We have a while to go, and we’ll see how it all works out.
