NYC Hot Weather Returns Tomorrow With Severe Weather Possible
Good morning everyone. We have a nice, typical July day unfolding today, then very hot weather returns tomorrow. With that hot weather, we may have enough instability in the atmosphere to spark off a line or broken line of severe weather tomorrow and Wednesday evening. After that, we’re watching Elsa closely to see if she enhances our approaching front Thursday and Friday.
SATELLITE
Today is an easy one, with sunshine, seasonably humid, and highs in the low to mid 80’s. Lows will only get down into the low 70’s, which is a sign that tomorrow will be a hot one.
WEATHER RADAR
For tomorrow and Wednesday, we go very humid with mid 90’s possible. We’ll have an area of energy coming down from the NNW both tomorrow and Wednesday, which may provide enough to give us some severe weather each late afternoon/evening. For tomorrow, the best chance to see some severe action will be the north shore of Long Island, north shores of Brooklyn & Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx, and NW New Jersey. As those storms sink SSE, we’ll see if the hold together as far as intensity.
We still have our eyes on Tropical Storm Elsa, which is actually giving me some concerns as far as what she will do when she emerges from Cuba. I say this because she’ll be making the cross near the narrowest part of the island, which means a faster emergence back over the ocean. It’s also taking a little wider turn and that will equate to more time over the warm Gulf.
What does this mean? We could be looking at a strong Tropical Storm or a Hurricane when it makes her final landfall somewhere north of Tampa. The biggest threat remains flooding rain for now, but we could see a minor to moderate storm surge depending on where it hits and how strong.
What does it mean for us? Absolutely nothing. Elsa remains on a trajectory over land and over the Carolina’s, then out to sea. What it’ll probably do through is enhance our approaching front, making showers more widespread, a little heavier, and 10mph more gusty.
