NYC LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT
Good morning everyone. We have a milky canopy of clouds over us today with a seasonable one underway. Meanwhile, some light snow may sneak in overnight before turning to rain and erasing any evidence of winter.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Look for sun shining through that vail of clouds at times today, highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. Clouds lower and thicken as the day wears on, and we could see some scattered light snow showers starting between 9pm-12am. Temps will be above freezing, so IF any light snow does fall, it’ll only stick on the colder surfaces such as grass, tree branches, and maybe a little bit on the cars. Timing will also be a major issue as well. If that moisture moves in too late, we could see no snow at all and just some cold rain, or a mix.
Anything that does fall, if anything at all, will wind up amounting to a coating at best. Before sunrise though, temps rise high enough to turn any snow into rain; which means for those not awake overnight, you may wake up to no evidence of this activity.
REGIONAL RADAR
Early morning rain continues tomorrow, then clouds will eventually clear out for a rather sunny day and highs in the mid to upper 40’s. Friday is looking comfortable with highs in the mid to upper 40’s and sunny skies, but clouds will increase late with the approach of yet another system.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
A cold rain will eventually make its way in between late Friday night and before sunrise Saturday, then rain continues for a decent portion of the day on Saturday. Expect raw and damp conditions Saturday with that low scooting just to our south and an easterly fetch of wind off of the cold water.
Sunday so far is looking like a great day, with sunny skies, maybe a little breezy, but highs are looking “mild” in the mid to upper 40’s; about 7-10 degrees above normal.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range, extreme cold air remains elusive and it looks as if we bounce between normal behind systems, and above normal just ahead of systems temp-wise. Mid January continues to look like our first opportunity for some below average temps, but system paths remain hostile towards snow.
We can see some snow here and there like we may tonight, but big powerful blizzard-like and/or Nor’easter type, all-snow events, remain to be a tough pull as of now and in the short/intermediate range.
