NYC Long Range Iffy With Questions Remaining

Good late morning everyone. Cold air is working its way in, and it’ll pay a brief visit today and tomorrow. Air modifies quickly for Saturday, then we try for milder weather Sunday onward. Things are looking iffy though as today’s system tries to retrograde back towards New England in a few days, and that may stick us in a cooler and cloudier pattern if that does wind up happening. This is something we’ve been talking about since last week, and indications aren’t going away.

Clouds stick around today as scattered showers and globs of wet snow depart over the course of the next hour or two. We go breezy today and temps will fall into the upper 30’s by sunset. Lows tonight will be near 30 in the NYC area, but areas away from NYC will dip into the 20’s. Areas well upstate will even see some teens overnight.

We remain cold tomorrow, with sun and clouds, a stiff NNW flow, and highs in the low 40’s.

Temps modify on Saturday to the “seasonably cool” category, and full sunshine returns with mid 50’s. Sunday will be the day our old system may creep back. That’ll bring some extra clouds back into the picture, but it won’t be close enough to spin cooler air back in yet. Highs near 60 or even low 60’s are possible.

To start next week, I’m going to play it conservative for now to see what low pressure does. If it does work its way back, clouds stick around and we may have a steady northerly flow. That’ll hold temps in the 55-60 realm for Monday, then we’ll have to take it day by day to see what happens. If the low doesn’t retrograde and cut off, mid 60’s are possible Monday, and we may even see 65-70 degree temps midweek. Again, we are playing it conservative to see what happens first. Don’t be surprised if next week is mostly cloudy and cool.
