NYC Long Range Outlook Early December

NYC Long Range Outlook Early December

Good afternoon everyone. Cold conditions continue to remain stubborn in the Northeast while shore areas of the Great Lakes continue to dig out from locally historic snow totals. The cold air will ease up a bit and we should have a very quiet Thanksgiving Day, but we are watching some energy that’ll try to build in the Texas area, while also keeping an eye on some very cold air that may make a debut after a quick mild hit to start December.

For the rest of today, you’re looking at it. We have sunshine, and upper 30’s to near 40 will be about as good as we do. These temps are typical mid to late December readings, but things will relax more towards seasonal tomorrow and Wednesday. Look for more sunshine tomorrow with 45-50 degree temps, then upper 40’s to near 50 for Wednesday and continued sunshine.

WEATHER RADAR

Thanksgiving Day on Thursday is looking rather innocuous, with upper 40’s to low 50’s as highs under sunshine. Clouds will increase overnight with our next system, but I remain unconvinced that this is “the one” as far as strength. Expect cloudy skies, low 50’s, and the chance of rain on Friday, but it could stay away from the area.

The weekend looks sunny and seasonably comfortable, with sunshine and upper 40’s to low 50’s. Clouds may increase Sunday night as we watch the prospects for a bigger system, but we’re not there yet.

The long range is looking a little bi-polar as we could get into some milder air to start December. This will all come to the timing and positioning of the next system behind our possibly bigger system, so we don’t know for sure as far as temps. On the low end, we could setback into mid 50’s, and on the high end, low to mid 60’s may be reachable if things work out perfectly.

However, all signs are pointing towards a cold blast, probably the coldest air of the season, which could arrive some time between December 5th and 9th. IF this one pans out, the core of the cold air could result in highs ranging between the upper 20’s and mid 30’s till things modify.
