NYC Mild Winter Causes Domino Effect With Approaching Systems
Good morning everyone. We’re having some big problems here trying to get some snow in the NYC Metro Area, with each mild dose and each quiet week making it more difficult to produce anything. Our brush with a system that’ll give the SC/NC mountains some hefty snows, would in theory have given us a brush of light snow across coastal sections, but it won’t work out that way: it simply can’t.
There is no cold air available in our area, and above average ocean temps in our corridor makes things even more complicated. At this point in our season, it’s March in February, where in order to pull off a snowstorm at this point (or even some light snow) would take the “perfect” setup. Can we still see a late season monster and make up the deficit? Of course, but again, it’ll have to be a home run atmospherically to get it.
SATELLITE
Today we have a sunny but breezy day. Look for highs in the mid 40’s and dry conditions overall. Clouds will increase later tomorrow ahead of our coastal system slipping off to our south and east. Expect more mid 40’s, then a cold, light rain overnight with lows 35-40. Best chance to see that rain will be along the immediate shores of NYC/NJ, then across Long Island. For those looking for some fleeting winter hope and you’re up at 4am, maybe, just maybe, if the rain becomes moderate in spots, if you look very closely, you may see a sleet ball or wet snowflake mixed in.
WEATHER RADAR
Clouds give way to sun on Monday and we’re back near 50. Sun remains on Tuesday with more near 50 temps, then we go a touch milder on Wednesday with increasing clouds and mid 50’s.
With warmer air pushing in, we’ll have a slight chance of a shower with upper 50’s to low 60’s Thursday; then more near 60 temps Friday with more showers and g. If we see some extra sun and a better wind profile Friday, 65 wouldn’t be uncommon.
For your weekend next week, so far things are looking breezy and much cooler, with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 40’s.
