NYC More Severe Weather Expected While 4th of July Forecast Improves

Good morning everyone. We have a big line of rain heading our way, and ahead of it there will be a push of strong to severe storms early this afternoon. This will be much-needed rain believe it or not, and we’ll get some more tomorrow and a little bit on Saturday. Your 4th of July forecast on Sunday has improved as everything is on the move Saturday.

Rain is headed our way today, but not before we see some morning sunshine. Expect increasing clouds, showers and storms starting some time between 12-3pm, and highs a humid mid to upper 80’s (depending on how long the sun lasts). Some of those storms may produce small hail, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. Localized flooding is also possible in poor drainage areas.

WEATHER RADAR

Tomorrow is more of the same except cooler. We’ll be watching for a wave or a couple of waves forming along the old front, bringing with it more showers and thundershowers. I think tomorrow we diminish the severe weather threat, but you could see an isolated severe storm depending on where the wave goes and how robust it is. Highs tomorrow in the 75-80 range.

Saturday remains the most questionable day of all, while Sunday improves in a big way. I’m still calling for mostly cloudy skies and widely scattered showers on Saturday. It looks a touch cooler with highs in the low 70’s. The scattered nature of the showers, plus the timing, make it very difficult to pinpoint a forecast for you at this moment. We’ll just have to watch the radar and hopefully Sunday’s improving forecast spills backwards into Saturday where there’s not much going on.

For Sunday, we’ll see decreasing clouds and highs near 80 for a relatively dry day. Extra sun pays a visit on Monday, and we’ll recover nicely into the mid 80’s. 90’s pay a visit once again and as expected starting Tuesday for a 2-3 day visit. Tropical moisture from the Gulf may grace us late week next week, which may suppress the temps until it makes its pass, then we could see a hot weekend.
