NYC Scattered Rain & Rumbles Continue Today & Tomorrow

Good morning everyone. Stubborn moisture and energy continue to meander in the Northeast, giving us a very hard time as far as forecasting for the holiday weekend. The 4th of July on Sunday remains the easiest call, and hot weather returns for a 2 day showing Tuesday and Wednesday.

We’re socked in with the clouds today, but you may see a blue or bright patch here or there, especially in the morning. While rain has drifted south of the area, more small waves will form along the old front, and we could see some showers or storms pop up at any time throughout the day. Don’t expect any rainouts or organized/prolonged areas of precip like yesterday evening, but we could see some heavy rain and rumbles here and there. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 70’s.

WEATHER RADAR

Tomorrow’s forecast remains complicated and I’m going to try my best to paint a picture as far as precip timing. I believe an area of rain and thunder will flare up some time in the morning for the NYC and western Long Island area, then slowly drift east and weaken as it goes. Aside from some leftover scattered sprinkles, I think the rain is gone from NYC and Nassau County some time between 2 and 3pm, then fizzles out on the East End by 7 or 8pm. Of course I could be wrong and the whole thing is fucked, but let’s see how it plays out and we will revisit this tomorrow AM.

Your 4th of July on Sunday looks much better as the energy finally fizzles out to hardly anything. We’ll see some sunshine and 75-80 degree temps, and we might see a widely scattered popcorn shower or storm. Best chance to see any action will be inland spots.

We continue to improve on Monday with sunshine and mid 80’s, then we go hot on Tuesday and Wednesday as low to mid 90’s return. We’re keeping an eye on the tropical action, with Tropical Storm Elsa possibly playing a role in our late week weather with some remnant-influenced heavy rain possible.
