NYC Much Needed Rain Likely
12/15/24 11:42am
Good late morning everyone. Our system which brought snow, freezing rain, and ice to parts of Iowa and the Midwest, is slowly sliding to the east as our weekend comes to a close. Onset snows are likely across parts of interior sections of Pennsylvania and New York before changing to rain, but this is an all-rain event for the coast.
This is the start of an active period that’ll not only include the chance of some strong thunderstorms for Florida and the Southeast, but a new wave of strong low pressure systems for the West Coast. Our next strong storm system is actually arriving throughout the next 24hrs across parts of California, Oregon, and Washington.
Expect a new risk of gale force winds along the coast, with winds gusting to 50+mph along coastal sections of northern California and lower Oregon. Heavy rains will push inland, then hit the cold air locked in the Cascades for some very heavy snows. Look for snow accumulations in the Oregon Cascades to reach the 20″+ mark in spots.
We’ll watch this new series of West Coast storms travel inland, eventually bringing rain, snow, and thunderstorms throughout the next 7-10 day period east of the Rockies and all the way to the East Coast. Here if your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Clouds increase today with cool/cold temperatures stuck in the 35-40 range. Cold rain will fall late tonight as temperatures rise and keep the snow risk at zero. However, don’t be surprised if you see some graupel or sleet balls mixed in with the rain in the very onset.
WEATHER RADAR
It’ll be all rain tomorrow as temps rise to near 50, then AM rain on Tuesday in the 55-60 degree range. Things will taper off during the afternoon, then we could see a few peeks of sun. AM sunshine on Wednesday gives way to more clouds, with the chance of some PM showers. Highs in the low 50’s.
We’ll do it again on Thursday with AM showers, and PM sunshine, with highs cooling off in the low to mid 40’s. Clouds increase again late on Friday, with the slight chance of an overnight rain/snow mix. Highs Friday in the 35-40 realm.
Your weekend looks quiet and cold for now, with 30’s and sunshine on Saturday with a developing breeze. Then blustery and very cold on Sunday with highs 25-30 possible.
