NYC Nice Day Today Before Clouds Arrive

Good morning everyone. We actually have a decent day today before clouds arrive with our next system, but rainy, raw, and cool conditions return. Overall, April has been a cool month aside from a mild day here and there; and unless we get some warm air at the very end of the month, our warmest day of spring so far will have been in March (82 degrees March 26th).

For those up early like myself, we are enjoying a beautiful sunrise and overall it’ll be a sunny morning. Clouds will roll in late, and we may get a scattered shower somewhere. Highs today are actually quite nice, and we should go for 65-70 today. This is one of those front-related, brief mild days that we’ve been talking about.

Reality hits hard tomorrow as we are quickly reminded that this pattern is not done with us. Expect a rainy day, raw east winds, and highs 50-55. As low pressure spins its wheels and sits over the Northeast, cold air aloft may make it to the surface in some interior parts of the Northeast, changing rain to wet snow or a wet snow mix. The best chance of this occurring will be in the higher elevations of the Green & White mountains.

Cloudy and showery conditions stick around for Friday, and it’s simply not a good day by mid-April standards. We’ll have scattered showers and highs near 50.

The good news is that we dry out for our weekend and we’ll dump the 50’s. We’ll still be slightly below average, but easily categorized as “seasonable”. Expect sunshine and near 60 temps for Saturday, then some extra clouds and near 60/low 60’s for Sunday.

Overall, we remain in this active pattern with some dry 3-4 day stretches in between. Seasonably cool to average temps remain locked in the area for the most part, and the best chance to see any milder air will be towards the end of the month. If it does pan out in the long range and we go mild/warm, it could mean a shot of unseasonably cool air for the first week of May. Let’s how things look next week.
