NYC NOREASTER WINTER STORM WARNINGS POSTED
NYC NOREASTER WINTER STORM WARNINGS POSTED
NYC NOREASTER WINTER STORM WARNINGS POSTED – Good morning everyone. Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for the NYC area in regards to our second March Nor’easter. In questionable areas, Winter Storm Watches continue on, and questions do remain, even for New York City.
The timeline for our March snowstorm is still intact, with a chance of rain and/or mix of rain and snow starting late this evening and into tonight. Rain is expected to change to all snow between late tomorrow night and sunrise, then snow throughout the day tomorrow. Big flakes will fill the air as it’ll be a heavy, wet snow with temps in the mid 30’s. Snow continues into tomorrow night, but it’ll begin to taper off and start ending by midnight west to east. Also, this one won’t have the same wind-field with it, so expect 15-25 mph winds, with some higher gusts. Along the immediate shore-line, we could see a few of those gusts in the 40+mph realm.
SNOW MAP MODIFIED TO REFLECT CLOSER LOW PRESSURE APPROACH
This morning model runs were the most important as far as seeing a more accurate depiction on the Nor’easter’s path. I have modified my experimental snow map to depict a close approach, which could spell trouble for parts of Long Island, specifically the south shore, Suffolk County, and the east end in terms of final snow amounts.
As stated yesterday, there is a bust potential for the area, especially Long Island, and that bust can go either way. We can see our totals get wiped out by slightly warmer air by 1-2 degrees and a low tucked in over or too close to Long Island, or we can see that 8-14+’ area of snow get pulled down if things get going slightly further off shore and colder air swoops in fast.
This is as tricky and delicate as things get. For commuters, prepare for the worst in terms of giving yourself time to get to and from work, but hope for the best. For those that do see all or mostly snow, this will be very hard to shovel. Do so in small increments and small areas if you’re not in your 20’s or 30’s anymore. As one friend put it, heavy wet snow is “heart attack” snow, so take it easy and do a little bit at a time.
The melt will be on anyway Thursday onward, with sunny skies and low to mid 40’s.
