NYC On & Off Rain Expected Tuesday Through Thursday
03/03/24 11:20am ET
Good morning everyone. We have a gorgeous day in parts of the Northeast for early March, but it doesn’t last as clouds begin to increase tomorrow ahead of a one-two punch of on & off rain that may be heavy at times. Our focus though remains on the West Coast and the Gulf, where historic snows in the western mountains will translate into strong to severe thunderstorms along parts of the Gulf Coast.
There is no break for the West as another low pressure system is set to slam the coast after low pressure begins to emerge from the Rockies and Lower Plains on Tuesday. Another few feet of snow and blizzard-like conditions are expected, especially in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington after some of these areas already saw 4-8ft of snow.
As low pressure emerges and taps the Gulf moisture Tuesday, cold air behind the system will allow enough contrast in air masses to spark off several clusters of heavy showers and storms. Initially, we’ll be watching extreme eastern Texas on east towards Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf States; but another wave of low pressure (which will become the main one to charge into the Northeast), could set off another round of storms which could reach severe limits. Our storms Tuesday and Wednesday from west to east, could contain torrential rain, frequent lightning, large hail, and tornadoes.
We’ll watch that entire system slide into the Northeast, bringing with it a round of on and off rain that will be heavy at times. After that, we watch that secondary system impacting the West Coast on Tuesday, replay the same action from the Lower Plains, Gulf, Southeast, and Northeast from Friday into the weekend from southwest to northeast. This is an active period for sure, so stay turned as we expect several systems of this type over the next 10-15 days.
