NYC Rainy Weather Dominates Weeklong Forecast
Good morning everyone. We’re watching the system that brought soaking rain to the Southeast yesterday, head into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today to do the same. No severe weather is expected with this, but it’ll be a gloomy day for sure, as will most of the forecast beyond.
We’re entering an active period across the U.S., with a parade of systems originating from the West Coast, then redeveloping along the Gulf States and racing Northeast. This will bring a wide variety of conditions, from extremely heavy snows in the Cascades, Sierra, and Rockies, to heavy thunderstorms along the South and Southeast; then soaking rains in the Northeast.
The next chance of severe thunderstorms and flooding rains along the Gulf, remains on time and during a window of Tuesday/Wednesday. We’ll be watching for the chance of some large hail and isolated tornadoes embedded within a larger complex of flooding rains, but at minimum, we’ll be dealing with that rain in areas already oversaturated. This will increase the risk of flash flooding along the Gulf States and Southeast.
For the Northeast, rain rain rain will be the menu all week. The only glimmer of hope for snow-lovers, will be the slight chance of a parting shot of snow next weekend as low pressure pulls away and cold air moves in. This remains to be seen and confidence is very low on this right now. Once we begin to near the second 3rd of March, getting snow becomes more difficult and you need the perfect setup. It’s not unheard of for sure, but it becomes more difficult as time goes on. For interior parts of the Northeast, the chance to see some near-spring snow is better.
