NYC Powerful Storms Possible Tomorrow Evening Onward
Good morning everyone. We have a beautiful, very warm day today here in the NYC area, but our focus is geared towards tomorrow. A fairly vigorous low pressure system dragging a cold front with it, could pass right over the area, giving us the potential for some very powerful storms.
SATELLITE
Last time we spoke, the wind profile wasn’t looking favorable for near 90 temps today (after originally looking favorable). Instead, we’ll split the day in half, with light westerlies helping us give an early boost, then southerlies holding us wherever we get. If we can hold onto the westerly flow long enough, look for temps in the upper 80’s to near 90. If not, look for mid 80’s, especially at the shore.
REGIONAL RADAR
Tomorrow remains our biggest concern, with a vigorous and compact area of low approaching to our west. With it running into warm and humid air, plus the lift it’ll provide, it will touch off severe weather for someone. If it spins just to our west and though our area, that someone will be us.
Expect torrential rain, frequent lightning, hail, and powerful winds with this system. The biggest issue will be the wind out of all of this, secondary hail, and the chance of isolated tornadoes. Flooding is a concern of course, but thats a given for our area when storms hit. Whoever sees the wind component out of this, will probably see numerous and widespread downed trees as those leaves will act like a sail and help push them over.
If it sets up right, this will probably wind up being the strongest storms we’ve had this season thus far.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
We have a transition week this week as the next pattern sets up. We’ll still be near-average temp-wise, but cloud cover and precipitation will be in question both Wednesday and Thursday. Of the two, Wednesday looks like the driest, with the chance of am isolated storm and low to mid 80’s. However, we could see another decent round of rain/thunderstorms on Thursday with another reinforcing shot of dry air moving in.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
As of now, the end of the week into the weekend looks dry and seasonable/slightly above average temp-wise, with low to mid 80’s for the end of the week, and mid to upper 80’s possible over the weekend.
