NYC Setup Not Conducive For Severe Weather Today

Good morning everyone. A major shift in location, size,  and intensity of wave development, has erased the chance for severe weather in the NYC area. We still have a cloudy and unsettled day ahead, with flooding concerns in the usual spots, but at least your car won’t be dimpled from hail or trees down on power lines.

Yesterday, it looked as if NYC and areas on south were in the bullseye for some intense, severe weather action. However, everything shifted further south last night and early this morning as the wave we were thinking would cause all of the issues, developed early.

Early development means that it’ll start it’s southeast jog early, taking the dynamics for widespread severe weather with it. Look for cloudy skies today, and it’ll be one of those days where we could see pop up heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms at any point.

A more organized area of showers and storms will clip us as that wave heads well south of us, but the biggest risk out of this will be flooding in the notorious spots, plus whoever sees slow moving heavy rain over them. Highs today a humid low 80’s.

Our rest of the week continues to look like a mish-mosh as we transition towards our next pattern. Expect partly sunny skies both tomorrow and Thursday, with the chance of a scattered shower or storm each day. Tomorrow is looking seasonal with highs in the low 80’s, but Thursday could be slightly cooler and slightly below average with highs in the upper 70’s to near 80.

Our weekend is holding strong, with nice weather re-emerging on Friday first. Expect sunny skies and average temps in the low 80’s, then we creep up slightly for our weekend. Sunny skies remain with mid 80’s Saturday, then maybe mid to upper 80’s Sunday.

In the long range and as far as fall relief, there essentially is none aside from 1 day here and there with slightly below average temps, then a quick return to average or above average temps. Models continue to kick the can down the road, which is not a good sign for fall lovers and/or those who were hoping we’d actually get 60’s during the daytime in August.
