NYC RAIN RETURN BRINGS BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND

NYC RAIN RETURN BRINGS BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND

Good morning everyone. We have a dry, comfortable, and seasonal day here in the New York City area as expected. Also, my concerns about some enhanced rain is coming to fruition, plus Hurricane Rosa’s influence may be limited in the mid-range forecast.

We have a wonderful day today with dew points in the 40’s (finally) and highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. A mix of sun and clouds will be around for most of the day.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Overnight, clouds will increase as a wave riding along a reinforcing shot of seasonal air heads towards the East Coast. Look for the chance of rain to increase just before sunrise and we could have a few rumbles of thunder. Most of the energy will be going north of us, where they don’t need anymore rain, but we should still see some action similar to Tuesday’s rainout. Localized flooding is possible in poor drainage areas.

Rain continues into tomorrow, especially before mid-afternoon, along with the chance of embedded thunderstorms. A northerly flow behind the wave/front and dense cloud cover will hold us in the 60’s all day.

The big story in my book is our weekend. Mother Nature will set the thermostat to late September, giving us sunny skies both Saturday and Sunday, and low humidity both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday looks slightly warmer than Sunday as sinking air will help get us into the low to mid 70’s; then the core of the seasonal air gets us down to the upper 60’s to low 70’s Sunday with bright sunshine.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Our first day of October on Monday continues to look right-on-target seasonal, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. After that, we begin to kink up the jet stream a bit from the west coast with the help of Hurricane Rosa. Look for low to mid 70’s Tuesday, then increasing humidity and 75-80 Wednesday. We’ll have to continue to watch and see if maritime air wins out, or tropical air hangs on for a bit. It could be a mix of both in terms of a couple of wild swings from next Thursday into the first weekend of October. Either way, Rosa’s influence looks short-lived. The long range forecast from yesterday solidifies even more and into the mostly-seasonal fall I’m expecting. For those who missed the fall outlook, you can click here and read it.

Stay tuned as we tweak the forecast keeping Rosa in mind and her final path.
