NYC RAIN ROUND PRECEDES BRIEF GUSTY STORMS

NYC RAIN ROUND PRECEDES BRIEF GUSTY STORMS

Good morning folks. Stubborn clouds and another round of rain continue to march towards the New York City area. Meanwhile, we have the chance of a gusty round of storms later this evening as we keep a close eye on long range as well.

REGIONAL RADAR

storm free

Clouds stick around all day as another round of showers head our way. We’ll start off with ENE winds due to a stubborn warm front to our west, but both fronts are starting to near occlusion. This happens when a cold front catches up to a warm front and they combine, giving characteristics of both. Once our round of rain passes, winds will briefly switch around to the SW; then we should get a thin line of gusty storms moving across the area in the the evening. Highs in the low to mid 60’s.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

By morning, any leftover energy is gone and we should have a sunny day. Steady westerlies will keep things where I expected in the first place, not the warm day other outlets were predicting. Highs in the mid to upper 50’s, maybe 60. Thursday will be a carbon copy sunshine-wise, but will be slightly cooler as winds become more northwesterly; highs in the low to mid 50’s.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

For the end of week, another moisture-laden system will head up from the southwest. We’ll have to wait to see if it reaches the criteria of coastal storm or Nor’easter status, but it’s not looking very impressive wind-wise at this point. It should be a decent soaker though and be enough to bring down relatively cold air into the region. Look for a rainy raw Friday, with NE winds and highs in the low 50’s. Some lake effect snow still looks possible when it departs, but heavy snows upstate will be quelled if the system takes a more inland route. As of now, your weekend is looking breezy, dry and below normal; highs in the mid to upper 40’s.

Once everything leaves, relatively cool to cold air will filter in, but the big twinkie for NYC will be a reinforcing shot of cold air possibly Monday or Tuesday. This could leave us in downright December-land with highs only in the low to mid 40’s (possibly upper 30’s in outlying areas) once that airmass barrels in.
