NYC Rain Wind Could End As Brief Snow Showers

NYC Rain Wind Could End As Brief Snow Showers

02/26/24 7:55am ET

Good morning everyone. From coast to coast and in between, we see one system approaching in the West that’ll touch off a round of severe thunderstorms in the Heartland, then quickly trude to the East Coast. We also have a dome of milder air ahead of that upcoming system, and the temperature difference is touching off a few sprinkles in the Tri-State area of the Northeast.

That system out in the West will be the main focus of our forecast as it exits the Rockies and increases the risk of severe storms from Texas and northeast into southern Indiana and lower Ohio. As of now, the line (or lines) of powerful storms look to be thin and brief, especially in the South and Southeast. However, these storms may be capable of damaging straight-line winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and some isolate tornadoes. The line looks wider as we enter the lower Great Lake states, but the risk of severe weather lessens as things march eastward. The timeline for severe weather remains late tomorrow into Wednesday from west to east.

For the Northeast and New England, we’re expecting a windy time ahead of this front, with on and off gusty showers and a few rumbles later on Wednesday. The line of mild air to cold air is very sharp, and we could see a changeover from rain to snow Wednesday night before things come to an end early Thursday AM. The best chance to quick changeover and some whitening of the ground, will be interior parts of the Northeast & New England.

We will keep a close eye on those storms. Here is your local NYC metro area forecast –

SATELLITE

storm free

Some light showers are transiting the area ahead of milder air today. We should see some sunshine later in the day, with highs 50-55.

After partial clearing late today and early tomorrow, clouds return again ahead of a fast moving system that’ll race from the West Coast to the East Coast. We could see a few late showers tomorrow, but most of the real stuff holds off till Wednesday. Highs in the mid 50’s.

WEATHER RADAR

We go windy, very mild, and rainy on Wednesday. Look for on and off gusty showers with the chance of a few embedded thundershowers. Highs will be in the near 60/low 60 range except cooler at the immediate shore with that wind whipping off of the colder water. With temps dropping into the near 30/low 30 range, we could see a brief changeover to snow overnight Wednesday if there is any moisture left.

Any snow showers left will come to an end early Thursday, with cold and windy conditions as highs only reach the 35-40 range.

Friday settles down with lighter winds, sunshine, and highs in the mid 40’s.
