NYC Roasts Today & Cold Front Doesn’t Do Much Tomorrow

Good morning everyone. Let’s face it, it’s just a plain old hot summer here in the NYC area. Today we’ll be expecting our hottest temps or 2nd hottest temps of the season so far, and tomorrow’s cold front passing through only brings us back down to the low 90/near 90 range. That’s how it goes when you have an above average season, with little relief until the very end. The tropics have also died down somewhat in terms of stories, with Hanna dying out over Mexico and Gonzalo going the way of the Dodo bird. That leaves us with one area of disturbed weather we are watching, possibly two, but no named storms yet.

Expect more baking hot sun today filtered by some thin icy cirrus clouds. Temps in the area will rise somewhere between the 95-100 realm. Best chance to reach 100 will be just west in the Newark/Jersey City area, and downtown Brooklyn/central Queens area. However, upper 90’s are a good bet for even the typically cooler Central Park.

REGIONAL RADAR

Very hot weather continues tomorrow with an uptick in the humidity due to an approaching cold front. This front is neither “cold” nor will it bring much relief. The lack of any major difference in airmass will also make it difficult to produce any widespread storms. Look for partly sunny and hot conditions, with the slight chance of an isolated afternoon/evening storm, highs in the mid 90’s.

The cold front will help cool us off into the low 90’s on Wednesday, then we sink back down to the near 90 realm Thursday and Friday under sunny skies.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Humidity begins to return Saturday and Sunday, with he slight chance of a storm each day. We’ll keep those upper 80’s/low 90’s around, and begin to prepare for another possible heatwave some time between Aug 5-10th. The best chance for any true relief so far, may come the week of the 10th, but it’s too early to tell yet.
