NYC SHORT FRIGID BLAST
NYC SHORT FRIGID BLAST
NYC SHORT FRIGID BLAST – Good morning everyone! The process has begin in terms of getting some arctic air our way, but it’ll be rather short lived. First off, a week disturbance ahead of the arctic front may touch off a few rain and/or snow showers later today and into tonight. Highs today in the low 40’s and lows in the lower 30’s. The sun returns tomorrow, but we’ll only reach near 40 as the arctic front begins to transit the area. Winds will pick up tomorrow night, clouds will increase, and temps will plummet into the low 20’s. There may be a few snow showers overnight tomorrow as the front passes, but it should amount to much.
For Thursday, I’m still keeping an eye on disturbance that may develop along the arctic front. It’s something I’ve been watching for weeks now and I still believe we could find ourselves on the northern fringe of this small system. For this reason, I am keeping the slight chance of some light snow Thursday and Thursday night, cloudy and windy, with highs in the mid to upper 20’s and lows into the low teens in NYC, possibly some single digits away from the City. If we do see anything as far as snow, I’d say a dusting to a 1/2″ would be the worst case scenario. That being said, it’s going to be so windy that if we do see any snow, it’ll be hard to measure since it’s going to blow around everywhere.
On Friday, we won’t make it out of the mid 20’s, but it won’t be as frigid at night as we start watching the next system approach our area. We continue to see a threat of a snow – to – ice – to – rain event for Friday night into Saturday as we transfer from the cold sector to this system to the warmer sector. Briefly, there has been a lot of talk about warm weather during Christmas Weekend. I am going to hold out on calling the ball for this one as models in the past few weeks have collapsed when trying to predict warm air pumping in ahead of a system. I will say it this point and depending on any system approaching the area that week, I see any warm up being extremely brief, maybe just 24hrs, and possibly a close call in terms of snow just before Christmas. I do not see any big departure in terms of major pattern changes and warmer air, but more of a return to more seasonable weather.
NYC SHORT FRIGID BLAST – The telltale signature of milky white on the satellite in Canada shows frigid air making its way down behind an arctic front. Expect a very cold Thursday and Friday.
NYC SHORT FRIGID BLAST – Radar is quiet locally, but echoes are starting to enter the area, possibly touching off some rain and/or snow showers later this evening and into tonight.
