NYC Slight Chance Of Brief Wintry Weather Thursday But No Major Storms In Sight

Good morning everyone. Before we get ahead of ourselves, we have a decent Sunday today and a beautiful Monday ahead. However, another annoying system is on the horizon with just enough juice to possibly mess up another rush hour, but not enough cold air in place to make it interesting.

With mild air moving in, expect clouds to sick around today with a few blue patches in the morning. Highs today will be in the mid 40’s.

Mild air is in full swing tomorrow but nothing crazy or record breaking. Sunny skies rule and we’ll have highs in the low to mid 50’s tomorrow.

Clouds are already on the increase by Tuesday afternoon and we should have highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. We could sneak a shower or two in, but the area should remain dry for the most part.

Expect on and off showery conditions Wednesday with the first wave of precipitation, then colder air moves in behind that wave as the next one sets up. With lows in the low to mid 30’s and more moisture moving in, we could see some mixed precip overnight Wednesday into Thursday AM; then quickly changing to rain as that wave of low pressure goes to our west.

Inland spots could be a challenge to forecast, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the prospects of a period of light snow and/or light freezing rain before they chance to rain too.

This is just an initial look into our midweek system, and things may trend warmer as they have been all season.

Overall, we simply cannot get off the ground with a lack of cold air other than “seasonably” cold air. Our system paths aren’t helping either, and any wintry precip we do get, changes to rain eventually. That is the story of our winter season this year, and I don’t see a break right now. We may have to start looking to a late February storm or a March blockbuster for some salvation, but as of now there’s nothing in the works.
