NYC SLIGHT LIGHT SNOW CHANCE WEDNESDAY
NYC SLIGHT LIGHT SNOW CHANCE WEDNESDAY
NYC SLIGHT LIGHT SNOW CHANCE WEDNESDAY – Good morning everyone, what a storm that slammed Maine! Some localized areas up there saw 3ft plus of snow, 7 foot drifts, and it was powerful enough to send gusts down here up to 72mph at Sands Point. The south shore also got in on the action where JFK Airport saw a 62mph gust and Point Lookout in Nassau measured 64mph. Winds quickly died down overnight for a breezy one and lows were in the mid to upper 20’s. Today, winds will really quiet down by the afternoon, with sunny skies and highs in the low 40’s.
Tomorrow, those two low pressure systems that I’ve been watching and discussing will begin to make their way to the east coast; one from Ontario Canada moving southeast, and the other along the southeastern states. At some point, the northern low will gobble up the wave to our south, and merge just before the Gulf of Maine. As the northern low passes by, there’s a slight chance of light snow and/or rain showers tomorrow afternoon depending on where everything sets up and how stubborn the cold air is. As of now, it looks like Maine may get another shot at some heavy snow on top of what they already had; and just like today, strong winds will filter down into our area overnight tomorrow and Thursday. Winter storm watches are already in place up in northern New England in regards to this system.
Anything we do get, looks to clear out Thursday for a sunny and cold day. For the weekend outlook in which I discuss the prospect of warm air, click here. We will continue to watch this quick moving, near miss for tomorrow and tomorrow night. I’m also keeping a close eye on the entire picture and it looks as if time is running out on winter as far as very big snows; unless we get a surprise, late season system such as The Blizzard of 1888 or a March Superstorm of 1993 type situation. That being said, there are still several systems out there that may give us a chance of some frozen precip, but I want to get past tomorrow first. Then, we will be looking into early March for my long range discussion.

Northeast Radar
Local and Northeast radar will be quiet until tomorrow, as we wait and see if some light snow or rain can reach down into the NYC area.
