WINDY COLD MONDAY NYC WEEKEND WARMUP LOOMING
WINDY COLD MONDAY NYC WEEKEND WARMUP LOOMING
WINDY COLD MONDAY NYC WEEKEND WARMUP LOOMING – good morning everyone! Today will feel much like mid-January, as a departing deep low pressure system that is slamming Maine with some very heavy snows, brings a healthy dose of cold air and windy conditions. Strong winds gusting to near 50mph will be with us all day and night, with partial clearing and highs only in the mid to upper 30’s. Tonight will be clear, cold and windy, lows in the mid 20’s.
Things are looking quiet and seasonably cold all week, with sunny to partly sunny skies, highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s, and lows in the mid 20’s. I’m still keeping an eye on Thursday, but at this point the biggest threat these two systems pose are clouds and maybe a few flurries/light showers from the northern low as it scoots on by well to our north. Any development at this point looks late and any chance for heavier precip would be confined to eastern Maine as it departs.
On Saturday, a new system begins to transit the lower 48 after slamming into the west coast. Ahead of it, there will be milder temps as things are looking to take a more northerly and westerly route past New York City. Depending on the final path of this system, temps may reach the mid to upper 40’s on Saturday, and the potential for temps in the 60’s on Sunday. As of now, this is all speculative and there are many factors that will need to come together to give us temps beyond the 50’s next weekend and into the beginning of next week. Either way, things are trending warmer after this cold week. We also need to watch and see what this system does as it stretches out and sends waves in our area in piece-meal fashion mid-week next week, just like December and January.
I’ll be keeping an eye on all of the potential outcomes as we enter mid February and start looking towards March. As of now, the narrative will be a cold and mostly dry week, with a warmup possible next weekend, then an active pattern resumes; but cold air seems to be elusive after this week unless there are any big changes.

Heavy snow continues in Maine and there are some lake effect snows in upstate NY. Otherwise, things are quiet elsewhere.
Local Radar
A few flurries are trying to make their way down. Don’t surprised if we see a few in the air, especially by the Forks of Long Island and just north of our area in NYC.
