NYC Snow Arrives This Afternoon, Possibly as Rain First
01/19/25 12:29pm
Good afternoon everyone. Winter Storm Warnings are in place across a large stretch of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and New England as our snowstorm begins to ramp up. Meanwhile, Winter Weather Advisories are issued for coastal sections of New Jersey, New York/Long Island, and Connecticut.
Light to moderate snow is developing with the help of a wave of low pressure set to ride up the East Coast and off of New England. Snow is currently falling across parts eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, most of West Virginia, on up into central and northeast Pennsylvania.
Eventually we will see snow spread across New Jersey and New York, possibly starting as some light rain for New York City and Long Island. While Winter Weather Advisories are in place, don’t be shocked if we see the advisories upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings.
Overall, we maintain a 3-6/4-8″ type snowfall throughout the region due to the fast nature of our system. However, we could see some locally higher amounts if heavier banding sets up. Our snowstorm is gone by tomorrow, then we are left with blustery conditions and frigid air.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Clouds lower and thicken today, with snow possibly beginning as some light rain. Highs will be in the upper 30’s, then begin to drop as precipitation starts. Overnight and as snow is falling, we drop into the teens, so snow will certainly stick; with a layer of ice possibly underneath it from whatever initially melted. Look for 4-7″ total for the NYC area, possibly higher if snow changes over earlier and/or we see some heavier convection.
WEATHER RADAR
Most of the snow will be gone by the time we wake up tomorrow, and we are left with a blustery day in the 20-25 range. Single digits rule the night, with 5-8 degree temps possible.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we remain frigid in the 15-20 degree range, with single digits again overnight. Stay warm!
