NYC Spotty On & Off Wintry Precip Today
Good morning everyone. We have treacherous conditions this morning from last night’s bout of freezing mist and drizzle. When we discussed yesterday’s timeline of events and broke down the snow amounts, we stated the first part of our system would be the heaviest and drop 3-6″. A large portion of the area comfortably fell within that range, now we wait and see what the parting shot will drop.
SATELLITE
As of now, most of the heaviest precip is staying offshore, with a few heavier echos bushing the Forks of Long Island. The radar has done a terrible job picking up the lighter precip, and also differentiating the snow from the sleet and freezing rain. Some heavier snow and sleet is trying to develop SW of Philadelphia, but the band looks on the thin side. We’ll see if the radar fills in to see if today’s wave of energy can finish the job of getting those with 3″ of snow, to 4″ and bring them into range.
Unless I see the radar fill in, confidence is low we can do this on a large scale and may be more localized. Expect on and off Snow, Sleet, and Freezing rain into the afternoon, with maybe a dusting to 1″.
F5 WEATHER RADARS
The sun returns tomorrow and Sunday, and temps will be above freezing in most spots. Look for mid 30’s and breezy conditions, but at least we’re dry.
Our next system is on Monday, with light snow and/or rain changing to all rain as we rise into the low 40’s; then the sun returns on Tuesday with mid 40’s.
The thaw will be on as 40’s continue Wednesday and Thursday with sunshine, and we may even get near 50 on Thursday.
