NYC Two Perfect Days Give Way to Gloom

04/08/24 10:11am ET

Good morning everyone. Happy Solar Eclipse Day as clouds line up almost perfectly at or near the path of totality. A system fizzling out and redeveloping along the tail-end, will help spread clouds from Texas northeastward into western New York, just in time for today’s events. Such is 2024, so let’s get on with the forecast.

As promised, very heavy rain with embedded strong to severe weather, is bubbling up from Louisiana, across Mississippi, and into Tennessee. While we don’t have any severe thunderstorm or tornado watches at this time, be on the lookout for isolated severe weather. What we do have though, are flood watches continuing throughout northeast Texas, southeast Oklahoma, northern Louisiana, and the southern tier of Arkansas.

We will continue to watch moisture develop along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, and rise into these areas. This is a slow process that will continue to give us issues for the next 48hrs or more. Again, on and off heavy rain with embedded severe weather is likely. While not everyone will see it, look for isolated cells that will contain large hail and possible isolated tornadoes. Any possible tornado could be rain-wrapped, which are the worst kind aside from nocturnal ones because they’re hard to spot until it’s too late. Keep an eye on that radar, as well as local alerts.
