NYC TYPICAL SUMMER WEATHER TRANSITION AFTER ANOTHER PERFECT DAY

NYC TYPICAL SUMMER WEATHER TRANSITION AFTER ANOTHER PERFECT DAY

Good morning everyone. After a horrible stretch of NYC gloom, with people wondering if summer is actually around the corner, we’ve been about to find 2 1/2 perfect, comfortable, and seasonable days in a row. We’ll add to that stretch today with another warm and dry day, then we begin our transition towards more of a typical NYC summer setting.

If you’re out and about this morning, you’re waking up to blue skies once again and relatively low humidity for this time of year. We’ll keep that going for most of the day, with increasing clouds late, a slight sea breeze developing, and highs 85-90 in most spots (cooler at the shore). That’s above average for this time of year, but fairly low dew points will keep things feeling comfortable.

Tonight, the edge of our typical summer weather starts to drift our way. We’ll have the slight chance of showers, then that chance will increase as we head into tomorrow. Muggy upper 70’s to low 80’s will be the theme for tomorrow unless we achieve more sunshine, and the chance of showers and storms will be with us for most of the day. Some of those storms could produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding.

Wednesday won’t be as muggy as Tuesday and we dry out. However, we begin that pivot towards more of a typical scene you’d see in NYC in early July. Expect decreasing clouds, increasing sunshine, and a WSW flow developing in the afternoon. We’ll bounce back towards that 85-90 realm if the sunshine gets going early, and it’ll be cooler at the shore if the sea breeze develops in time. If not, look for mid 80’s at the south-facing beaches.

We slowly dial things up Thursday, with increasing humidity and sun and clouds. Highs again in the 85-90 range, cooler along the south shore.

Friday is looking like your full-blown, mid summer, NYC day in the area. Expect very warm to hot and humid conditions, more sun than clouds, and highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s in most spots. Again, we’ll be cooler along the south shores, so if you’re looking for relief, head to the immediate coast; especially along the Nassau and Suffolk beaches.

I’m holding off on the weekend for now until I see a few things. We’ll definitely work on cooling things off temporarily, but I want to see the dynamics involved and how much precipitation/clouds are involved. I don’t think we’re into 100% gloom and I know for sure we don’t regress back into the upper 60 low 70 nonsense; but we do try and cool things down before the very warm/hot weather snaps back to start July.

For an early Hail-Mary call, your July 4th is looking very warm and humid, and the chance of a late thunderstorm. We have a LONG way to go on that though, and we’ll see how it all plays out.
