NYC Unsettled Day Today Plus Wind Machine Return Tonight

Good morning everyone. We’re starting off cloudy with some widely scattered sprinkles around. However, bigger rain is coming and we may even see a gusty storm this evening. Our week continues to look volatile, with big temp swings and a relatively cold start to April. Also, my concerns about a cut-off low in the Northeast isn’t going away, and that could impact our weather for a good chunk of the first half of April.

For today, we have clouds blanketing the area ahead of a juicy warm front. That’ll give us a round of steady rain, heavy at times mid to late morning into early afternoon. Then we’ll see a few scattered showers as we await our cold front, and possibly a thin line of gusty storms ahead of it. Wind will be the primary factor in this fast moving, brief line; then we become windy again behind the front as cooler air heads in. Highs today near 60.

Tomorrow remains windy, but at least the sun returns. Look for highs near 50, and those wind gusts will be in the 40-45mph range till evening. Winds calm down for Tuesday, and we should have a very comfortable day with mid 60’s and sunshine.

Our next system arrives later on Wednesday, and that one will be bringing a brief shot of cold air. Expect increasing clouds and afternoon rain developing. Highs near 60. Rain will continue overnight and into Thursday, then partial clearing will ensue in the afternoon. We drop into the 50’s Thursday, but get even colder at night. Lows Thursday will be in the mid to upper 20’s, and we might have a problem getting out of the low 40’s Friday for a winter feel.

We’ll bounce back for the weekend with low 50’s Saturday and maybe mid 50’s Sunday.
