NYC Very Cold Air Shot Coming Could Suppress Systems
Good morning everyone. We continue to look for snow opportunities and cold air, but cold air may hurt our snow opportunities. That’s the way it goes sometimes, but we’re not closing the door yet on this very sparse season winter weather-wise.
SATELLITE
Today we have some increasing clouds with the slight chance of a light shower here or there. We’ll have highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s for a fairly seasonably or slightly above average day temp-wise.
Clouds decrease tomorrow and we’ll be in the mid to upper 40’s in most spots. Sunday is looking quiet as well, but we’ll have increasing clouds and the slight chance of a shower. This will be the best chance to crack 50. with highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s depending on if we can squeeze in some extra sun.
WEATHER RADAR
To start the week, we’ll hold onto milder air with sun and clouds and highs in the mid to upper 40’s. Decreasing clouds Monday night will give way to increasing clouds Tuesday as our cold shot begins to spool up. Expect 35-40 degree temps for Tuesday.
Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday AM, we could see some light snow dot the area ahead of that colder blast. We’ll keep an eye on it, but it is too early to tell if the moisture will be there to give us the opportunity.
The end of the week is looking cold. Highs Thursday and Friday will dip into the upper 20’s to low 30’s, then teens overnight in many spots.
Sometimes the cold air doesn’t give you what you want as far as snow. Our first cold shot in over a month is also a shallow one with high pressure scooting to the north of us. I was hoping for a deeper-diving cold blast, but it’s not working out that way. Not only will it equate to a brief shot of cold air, but it may also be just enough to suppress out next system well to our south; dashing any chances for some light to moderate snow.
