NYC Very Warm Day After Clouds Break Up

NYC Very Warm Day After Clouds Break Up

05/08/24 11:19am ET

Good morning everyone. We’re expecting a very warm day in the NYC area with the help of some afternoon sunshine, but then temperatures take a gradual dive in the Northeast over the next few days. Meanwhile, severe weather continues to plague areas of the Midwest and Southeast.

We have two patches of severe weather we are watching at the moment. The first is in Tennessee heading towards western North Carolina. Areas there are experiencing damaging winds, large hail, torrential rain, and frequent lighting. The second area is in Missouri, and this area will become a big player in severe weather and tornadic activity later today and overnight.

Our Missouri cluster of severe weather will blossom and begin to move outward towards southern Illinois and Kentucky, with a tail-end possibly forming in Arkansas as low pressure begins to develop. This is a very complicated forecast, with more severe weather forming in central Iowa that will be related to this system, but separated by a wide distance. We’ll watch our Iowa storms meander through the state, causing some flooding issues on top of the typical severe weather menu.

Our main cluster of storms will develop into several lines and move across Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and extreme southern parts of Illinois and Indiana. All the while, our tail-end will mow through Arkansas and northeast Texas. The northeast part of the line will then drape down towards Mississippi, Alabama, northwest Georgia, and northwest parts of South Carolina. Look for large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and more strong tornadoes.

The timeline on all of this looks to be now (as our Missouri energy gathers up), tonight in the Central States/Texas, through the morning hours into the Southeast. Please listen to your local agencies for the latest watches and warnings, and be prepared to take action in order to protect property and life.
