NYC Watching Late Weekend Forecast Closely

Good morning everyone. Could it be? Well, we’re not there yet, but we’re watching an interesting scenario play out, where our next departing system develops a wave in the Southeast and tries to ride up the coast. Although we are only 5 days or so out, we may as well be on Mars with this one and it’s going to take some time to figure it out.

For now, we are quiet and cool today. We’ll have some increasing clouds ahead of milder air pushing in. We’ll remain dry today though with highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s for a seasonable day. Overnight we could see a sprinkle or two, then we go mostly sunny tomorrow with highs in the near 50 realm.

WEATHER RADAR

On and off rain comes in on Thursday with another day near 50. Behind our system, we’ll actually be a bit milder with some sinking air and sunshine. That’ll help boost us into the 55-60 range, then we start closely watching our weekend.

The cooler air lagging behind our departed system heads in on Saturday, with AM sunshine then increasing clouds late. We’ll have highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. Lows in the 25-30 range overnight Saturday will add to the interesting dynamics that may play out late Sunday.

Again, right now we are dealing with A LOT of “ifs”, but we’re watching Thursday’s system stall out alone the SE and Gulf, with a possible wave forming and heading up the coast either just inland or just offshore. System development, system path, how much cold air is available, and how much high pressure builds in, will all be factored into whether we can eke out a decent storm out of this.

At minimum, something could be brewing, but don’t follow the GFS as gospel. If you look very closely, this morning’s run shows a strange scenario, with a band of heavy snow with rain on all sides. That’s not a good sign as far as accuracy, and is offering up snow through evaporative cooling due to heavy precip. That’s a lot to bank on 5 days out.
