NYC Weekend Remains Pleasant Monday Rain Expected

Good morning NYC and parts elsewhere! We have a very nice day here in NYC despite high pressure beginning its move eastward. That’ll give way to rain to start our week, but not before giving us the gift of a fairly nice weekend here in the area.

SATELLITE

Icy cirrus mixed with blue skies and sun will dominate today. A maritime fetch will get a little bit more steady, and that’ll mean some ground swells for boaters offshore, but we still get into the upper 70’s to low 80’s today (slightly cooler at the shore).

Tomorrow, we’ll see early sun, then sun and clouds as moisture from our next system begins to creep up from the south/southwest. We’ll be slightly cooler than today in spots, but nothing extreme. Expect mid to upper 70’s; and even if we only get to mid 70’s, 78/79 is the average, so we’re not far off.

REGIONAL RADAR

Clouds continue to increase Sunday night with the slight chance of a shower, then we should get a decent batch of rain Monday afternoon. I don’t think we see a complete washout during this period, but we will have waves of steady rain Monday afternoon through Tuesday.

Because the airmass is tropical, we’ll still be able to achieve 70’s Monday and Tuesday. Total rainfall should be about an inch or two in spots that see the heaviest of rain, and localized flooding will be possible in the notorious poor drainage areas when/if the rain is coming down hard.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Things are looking strong for a brief drying out before our next system arrives. Expect decreasing clouds Wednesday for a sunny day, but we’ll still be seasonably cool and comfortable with mid 70’s. Rain heads back in Wednesday night and Thursday, then we clear out for a dry, sunny, and seasonal Friday.

For next weekend, it all hangs in the balance of a backdoor cold front that might drape itself across or near our area. If it stays well to our north, we could squeeze off a couple of very warm days or at minimum split the weekend. If it hangs over or near us, then we have to start discussing some gloom factor.

Hang tight and we will work it all out by mid-week.
