NYC WEEKEND SNOW CHANCE INCREASES
NYC WEEKEND SNOW CHANCE INCREASES – Good morning everyone! It’s so cold out, the politicians have their hands in their own pockets and all of our November mosquitos have finally gone the way of the dinosaurs, I think.
If you’re waking up early, we have temps in the teens and most likely, they will stay there today or barely reach 20°. Clouds increase tonight as “warmer” air involved with a very weak disturbance moves in tomorrow. We’ll soar into the mid 20’s, with a slight chance of some flurries before we clear out again overnight.
Clouds increase again Saturday as our clipper system heads our way ahead of another shot of bitter cold air. This is where things get complicated and questions still remain. Models are now in agreement that we have a chance of some snow in the area, but there are still issues.
For now, we will see at minimum, a chance of some very light snow in the area Saturday afternoon into overnight. As with most clipper systems, it’ll have issues with moisture, especially with this cold, dry air in place. This means not all places will see snow during the onset.
After this, there’s a chance the clipper’s low pressure might strengthen as it moves quickly out to sea. Depending on where this enhancement happens, could mean the difference between just a dusting to a coating, to a 1-4” type event.
Either way, we are not looking at anything major. The low is simply moving too fast and doesn’t have a lot to work with. Originally, some models had it phasing with moisture from the south, but it won’t be available.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on this system, but for some places, this will be a non-event, or at worst, a light event. The best chance for a light to moderate event, would be Eastern Long Island, but even then, it all hangs on last minute development as it’s quickly on the move.
As far as New Years Eve is concerned, we’re looking at bitter cold and low to mid teens by the time the ball drops. So if you’re looking to head into New York City to celebrate, dress appropriately as this is dangerously cold weather.
