NYC Wide Summer Weather Spectrum This Week & Weekend

NYC Wide Summer Weather Spectrum This Week & Weekend

Good morning everyone and welcome to the 2nd week of July. We have a wide range of weather expected this week, but none of it includes cool or dry conditions. We’ll have varying temps ranging from warm, to very warm, to hot. Plus a small low pressure system to deal with Friday & Saturday that may bring us some much needed periods of steady rain.

SATELLITE

Mostly cloudy, warm, humid, and breezy conditions will be with us today. In between, look for some nice patches of blue.  We’ll have the slight chance of a shower or storm, especially inland, and highs will be in the mid 80’s.

Tomorrow that easterly influence fades away and a more southerly route takes its place. We’ll keep the chance of a storm in the forecast, but anything going on will be isolated. Highs in the upper 80’s to near 90.

Thursday has the potential to be the hottest day of the week with less cloud cover and drier conditions as far as any storm chances. Expect clouds and sun, a humid day, and highs 90-95. The best chance to see low to mid 90’s if they pan out, would be in downtown Brooklyn and Central Queens.

For Friday, low pressure works its way up the coast ahead of a cold front forging east. Regardless of whether the low is typical, subtropical, or becomes tropical, it’s all semantics at this point. We’ll be watching the path closely, but not due to any concerns over strength; but because it will be a compact system and will only affect small areas at a time.

Whether we get the main shield of rain with it or not, it’ll help enhance the approaching front and increase the chance of showers and storms across the Northeast. For the moment, we’ll call for a mostly cloudy to cloudy day on Friday, warm & humid, breezy, with the chance of showers and storms. Highs a very humid mid 80’s.

Saturday’s a tough forecast temperature-wise, and we’ll have to wait and see how much influence that low has or how long it sticks around. If the influence dissipates and we have some extra sunshine with less rain, we could easily go for 90 degrees in the area with a diminished chance of showers & storms. If we still have an abundance of clouds and showers around, it’ll be a repeat of tropical mid 80’s like Friday.

For Sunday, the chance of showers & storms decreases back to the typical weather we’ve had in the past couple of weeks, and near 90 temps are a good bet if we get more sun than clouds.

Very warm to hot temps continue onward for next week, and we’re still watching to see if we can string together 3-5 days of mid 90’s somewhere. The best chance for that remains late week next week, but there are still some issues to be worked out as far as fronts and will they stay away/get out of the way. It could be a broken chain of hot to very hot weather, which would not constitute a heatwave technically. Regardless, a majority very warm to hot summer continues, and we haven’t had one like this in a while.

Stay tuned.
