NYC WINDS HOWL AFTER MILD RAINY SUNDAY
Good morning everyone. Clouds have returned today and they’re going to stick around in the NYC area probably until late Sunday with our next system coming in. Meanwhile, the big story will be the wind behind our next big rain-maker and we start off March relatively cold/active.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Low to mid-level clouds will be in and out today with maybe a few peeks of sun, but it won’t be anything like yesterday in terms of mildness. We’ll still be slightly above normal with highs in the low to mid 40’s, but less sun and a NW wind will help things feel cool.
REGIONAL RADAR
Tomorrow should be mostly dry, but clouds reign again with the slight chance of rain in the late afternoon; highs in the low 40’s. Most of the rain moves in tomorrow night and it’ll feel raw and cold ahead of that warm front. Southeast winds will make sure everything stays rain with warmer air aloft and mid 30’s near the surface.
For Sunday, rain should be with us until some time between late morning and early afternoon. Winds will switch around to the southwest temporarily, helping to pump in some milder air and giving us highs in the mid to upper 50’s. Depending on when the precipitation ends and sunshine begins, we could reach or break 60 in spots.
However, anything mild that happens is brief and colder air starts to rush back in overnight Sunday with the help of very strong west/northwesterlies. As of now, I’d say we dip down into the low to mid 30’s, and wind advisories may be needed in regards.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Wind continues on Monday as we remain seasonably cold. Expect sunny skies and highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. For Tuesday, the wind will start to calm down somewhat, but the cold air remains locked in as we only climb into the mid to upper 30’s.
There was big talk on the internet about a snowstorm Wednesday, but right now I’m just not impressed. It still looks to me as if one piece of energy goes north and one to our south; a familiar story of our winter season for 2018/2019. That doesn’t mean we can’t see any frozen precipitation, mix, or cold rain, but I don’t see us getting blasted with a blizzard midweek.
If anything changes, I’ll let you know. Remember, we handle one system at a time here because nothing looks the same once the first one departs. The priority remains the wind and rainmaker for now.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
In the long range, we remain active and relatively cold for our entry into March. Whether Mother Nature can take advantage of this temporary pattern change as far as system path, remains to be seen; but time is running out quickly now and she may only have a 10-15 day window left before the ship is untied from the docks and starts drifting away from winter.
