NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE
NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE
NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE – Good morning everyone and welcome back! We have a great start to the weekend as a weak system moving by has left us a brief gift of seasonably mildish air. Expect sun and clouds today, a light breeze out of the south, and highs in the mid to upper 40’s. Tonight, things cloud up again as our next system heads from the Ohio Valley into the NYC area.
NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE
Cold air will be stubborn to leave and with an over-running swath of moisture moving in, we can see a brief period of wet snow a few hours after midnight, then mixing with rain before sunrise; and then a plain cold rain by late morning/early afternoon. Highs will only make it into the upper 30’s to near 40, making for a raw, windy day as low pressure strengthens off of the forks of Long Island and into the Gulf of Maine. Winter Weather Advisories are up to our northwest due to a prolonged period of freezing rain, sleet, and snow expected and Winter Storm Watches are up to our northeast away from the coast as this will remain all snow for much of New England. However, little to no accumulation is expected here and anything that does fall, should easily wash away when everything goes to all rain.
NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE
NYC WINTRY SUNDAY LAYER CAKE – As low pressure departs and pulls cold air back down, do not be surprised to see a quick shot of some flurries in the NYC area Sunday evening and/or Sunday night. The biggest story with this system for us though. will be the wind as this system pulls away and ramps up pretty good in New England. As precip is coming to an end and the system departs, we could see wind gusts possibly reaching 45mph, especially along the immediate coast into Monday. Aside from the wind on Monday, things will be clearing up and will be seasonably cold, highs in the upper 30’s to near 40.
I mentioned yesterday on Angry Ben’s Angry Weather FB page, that I was keeping an eye on Thursday for a system, but won’t make the call until this weekend system passes. This is because we have to wait and see if there’s room for development in terms of the upper atmosphere and steering mechanisms. Since tomorrow’s system is going to be very strong, specifically for New England, I have my doubts as far as what can develop. I will continue to keep an eye on it, but I am skeptical; so as of now I am calling for a sunny and seasonably cold week ahead. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to near 40 Tuesday through Friday, and lows in the mid to upper 20’s, with partly to mostly sunny skies throughout. If anything changes, I will be sure to report.
Satellite View
Satellite shows today’s over-running cloud bank departing, making way for a mild day; then more mixed precip moves back in with our system out to the west moving in.
Northeast Radar
Things are looking quiet in the area today, but echoes will increase after midnight as our next system moves in and redevelops off of Long Island/Cape Cod.
