RAIN TEMPORARILY ENDS WIND CONTINUES
RAIN TEMPORARILY ENDS WIND CONTINUES
RAIN TEMPORARILY ENDS WIND CONTINUES – Good late morning everyone. Scattered light to moderate rain continues to push across the area as a warm front slides to our south. It should come to an end soon in most areas, but easterly winds will continue with energy hanging back to our west. Clouds will remain and we’ll have some scattered drizzle through out the rest of the day until a secondary piece of energy heads in overnight. Highs will only make it to near 60 today.
Expect areas of fog tonight, then a chance of showers and strong thunderstorms. The primary threat with these storms will be gusty winds and torrential rain. For tomorrow, things will be slow to clear out, with clouds hanging around and a chance of a few showers, but with a northwesterly wind, it will dry out eventually and we could see low to mid 70’s tomorrow.
The holiday weekend continues to look like a split, with Saturday being the nicest day. We’ll have clouds and sun, highs in the mid 70’s. Clouds roll back in for Sunday and a chance of a few showers, but don’t expect any rainouts; highs 65-70. Steadier rain could affect us Sunday night, then taper off to scattered showers on Monday and mostly cloudy skies; highs near 70.
In the long range, we dry out on Tuesday and Wednesday for two nice, back to back days possible and highs in the mid to upper 70’s.
For those boaters out there, if you’re looking for a comfortable and safe experience out there for the weekend, stay in the local bays and inner areas of the inlets. Easterly winds will create a decent ground swell in the ocean, as well as 2-4ft and solid 3ft seas; fine if you have a bigger boat, but not a comfortable time for your average vessel out there. Fluking looks solid around Jones Inlet and East Rockaway Inlet, but off to a slow start the further east you go. Stripers have been all over the place, but easterly winds and holiday boat traffic may keep the action to a minimum. Keep an eye on those Blues as this is the time of year when they start invading the inlets and causing havoc on the surface.
