Tropical Storm Isaias Slows Down While Looking Healthier

Good morning everyone. We have a “happier” looking storm on our hands this morning as Isaias begins slowing down to eventually make its move in a more northerly fashion. Personally, I was very shocked at what happened to it in the past 36hrs considering Isaias had formed an eye, then got ripped to pieces.

Because the inflow was interrupted by mountainous regions of Cuba, the strengthening process actually hurt itself as it became strong enough to draw in dry air in off the mountains. This in turn allowed the shear to have a greater effect, essentially ripping the storm part to a degree.

Now that Isaias is away from those factors, it’s had a chance to reorganize, but the damage is done. We can still see it regain hurricane status since we’re only 8mph away in terms of sustained winds, but eventually Isaias will start interacting with land again and start moving very quickly.

Locally, we have clouds in the area today and it’ll be very warm & muggy. Expect the chance of showers and storms that may pop up at any point in the day, and highs will be in the upper 80’s to near 90.

REGIONAL RADAR

Look for more of the same tomorrow, but we may get into the low 90’s depending on how much sunshine we get.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Tuesday, we begin watching what will be (still or again) Tropical Storm Isaias and what kind of effects it’ll have in our area. Right now the timing looks like late afternoon into overnight Tuesday for the bulk of the action. The heaviest rain at this moment looks to be just west of of area, but we could still see a quick shot of 2-4″ of rain with numerous tropical storm force wind gusts.

Minor to moderate coastal flooding will be possible at times of high tide due to the moon phase, but we’re talking Nor’Easter-level flooding, not a full bore hurricane type dangerous storm surge.

Isaias’ effects may linger into early Wednesday, then we’ll have some clearing and a muggy day with mid to upper 80’s.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Temperatures begin to settle down back towards near-normal or slight above average, then a little uptick may happen over the course of the next 5 days after this week. We’ll be watching closely for another area of hot weather, but we have to see what Isaias’ long term effects will be on the jet stream. It could prolong the heat, or start the gears towards more typical late August/early September weather.
