NYC Comfortably Warm Weekend Ahead

Good morning everyone. Our next cold front is currently swinging on by with delayed relief which won’t happen till tomorrow. We also have some light passing showers as we speak, but those will come to an end over the next hour or so. Aside from that, we have a comfortably warm period from Friday into next week, and the tropics are making me a little nervous; and I’ll explain why.

SATELLITE

Look for some passing AM showers this morning, then westerlies will help dry things out, but also heat things up. Sinking air will help boost temps into the upper 80’s to near 90 today once the sun returns. However, slight cooler air swings in tomorrow, with sunshine, low 80’s, and dry conditions expected.

WEATHER RADAR

Your weekend is somewhat of a split decision as our next systems moves in. We’ll start out with AM sun on Saturday, then increasing clouds late. Highs will be in the near 80 range for a comfortably warm day. Depending on the timing of that system, we could see some scattered showers and storms developing late, possibly lasting into Sunday early morning. Look for decreasing clouds Sunday with more near 80 degree temps. Dry conditions and near 80º temps continue into early next workweek.

With the tropics, everyone is focused on the lack of activity in the Atlantic, which is a wonderful thing. However, with a strong El Niño and so much tropical activity off the West Coast of Central America & Mexico, sometimes we see that activity shift east into the lower Caribbean. We’ll be watching closely for stationary activity expected to increase over the next week or two. This is typically the area to watch as Cape Verde season starts to wane.
