NYC Long Island Evening Tropical Update

Good afternoon everyone. We’re doing our last update for the day and I may go live once more later in the evening in regards to Hurricane Henri. The short range model has updated, and continue the idea of an eastern Suffolk County landfall. Warnings continue onward and there is no change in the forecast as far as what to expect.

Remember not to focus on strength at this point and the landfall will only impact who will see the strongest winds and larger surge for the east end and New England, not the LI Sound and S. shore of Long Island. The sound is expected to have a 2-4/3-5ft storm surge, and the south shore a 1-4ft storm surge.

Any landfalling hurricane is capable of brief tornados and tropical storm force gusts well away from the center, including west of center, which is why everyone continues to take precautions and not underestimate to potential of individual rain bands.

For those who want to see this morning’s forecast, which really hasn’t changed, you can check out the synopsis here; where I go into what to expect and when. https://www.nycweathernow.com/nyc-long-island-make-henri-preparations-now/
